DDA housing sales jump 341% in four years on policy reforms and housing schemes

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has recorded a sharp 340.9% increase in housing sales over the past four years, reflecting rising demand for its housing schemes and the impact of policy reforms introduced by the authority. Between 2022-23 and 2025-26, DDA sold 29,909 housing units compared with 6,783 units during 2018-19 to 2021-22, marking the highest sales growth in recent years.

This steep increase in sales has also translated into a major revenue boost for the authority. Revenue collected from the housing sales reached nearly Rs 10,446 crore during 2022-23 to 2025-26, up 152.90 per cent as compared to Rs 4,130 crore during 2018-19 to 2021-22.

This growth can be credited to a number of reforms and policy measures that has made DDA housing schemes attractive and accessible to buyers.

One of the key changes was the shift from the traditional lottery-based system to a first-come, first-served model; it ensured a fairer housing scheme for aspirational buyers. This change allowed the potential buyers to select flats directly instead of relying on a lottery system, which was prone to rigging.

The authority also took steps to ensure that only serious buyers got to participate in the booking process. For instance, in order to start the booking process with applications, a token amount was charged. This ensured that speculative buyers were discouraged, according to a report in the Hindustan Times.

Aside from this, the authority introduced online systems on its official website to ensure simplification of the application process and completion of documents. These initiatives helped reduce the delays that were once common, while also ensuring the process is transparent for homebuyers in the housing allocation process.
