After remaining inactive for more than a decade, Delhi’s Trans-Yamuna Area Development Board has been revived with a substantial Rs 1,000 crore allocation, marking a major push to bridge infrastructure gaps in East, North East, and Shahdara districts.

The move signals the government’s renewed focus on equitable development across the capital, with the board tasked to fast-track long-pending civic projects — from roads and drains to street lighting and parks — in the city’s often-overlooked Trans-Yamuna region.

Gandhi Nagar MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely was appointed chairman of the board in August 2025. Under his leadership, the board is focusing on comprehensive development in the Trans-Yamuna region. Lovely has initiated consultations with local MLAs to identify priority development work in their constituencies, and submissions for proposed projects have already begun.

The board is expected to hold its first major meeting next week to finalise key projects aimed at addressing the region’s long-standing neglect. The Rs 1,000 crore allocation will be included in the revised estimates for 2025-26. Serving as a coordinating agency, the board will streamline departmental processes and ensure that overlapping jurisdictions do not delay implementation. 

The renewed focus on infrastructure and civic amenities in Trans-Yamuna is part of the government’s broader push for equitable urban development across Delhi.
