Giving a boost to Delhi-NCR’s road infrastructure, the Centre has cleared the decks for a 30-km expressway that will connect Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida and the upcoming Noida International Airport at Jewar.

The new corridor, to be developed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), will run parallel to the existing Noida–Greater Noida Expressway along the Yamuna river and provide a direct high-speed link to Jewar Airport. Proposed by Gautam Buddha Nagar MP Dr. Mahesh Sharma and endorsed by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, the expressway has been designed as a strategic bypass to decongest the current expressway, which handles nearly five lakh vehicles daily, and to unlock the full potential of Jewar as a global aviation hub.

With projects worth ₹1.2 lakh crore already underway in NCR and another ₹40,000–50,000 crore planned, the expressway marks a critical step in the government’s roadmap to strengthen regional connectivity, improve traffic flow, and support future urban and economic growth.

The expressway received in-principle clearance from the Noida Authority in March 2025 to decongest the heavily burdened Noida-Greater Noida Expressway.

The Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) had been tasked with its execution, with a proposed cost-sharing model among Noida, Greater Noida, and Yamuna Expressway authorities.

However, with the Centre’s involvement, the NHAI is now expected to take up construction, with formal approval being the only pending step.

Currently, the 25 km Noida-Greater Noida Expressway handles around five lakh vehicles daily, leading to severe congestion during peak hours.

According to Sharma, the new expressway will act as a strategic bypass, allowing vehicles from Delhi to reach Jewar Airport directly.

“To fully leverage Jewar Airport’s potential, building a direct and efficient road link is not just necessary, it’s urgent,” he was quoted as saying.

Authorities plan to adopt upgraded design standards to avoid past issues with the Yamuna Pushta Road, ensuring long-term durability and safety under NHAI supervision.
