A key bottleneck delaying the extension of the Red Line from Rithala to Narela–Kundli under Delhi Metro’s Phase IV has been resolved after Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena approved the allotment of Delhi Jal Board (DJB) land to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
The approval clears the way for construction of the elevated corridor, strengthening Delhi–Haryana connectivity and improving public transport access across north-west Delhi and adjoining border areas, according to a report by The Tribune.
After Saxena’s nod, the DJB will allot 50 sqm of land situated at STP, Rithala, to the DMRC on a permanent basis (99-year lease) and also hand over 1,286 sqm of land on a temporary basis for a period of four years for the construction of a viaduct from Rithala to Rohini in Sector 25.
According to the terms and conditions, the DMRC will pay the DJB an amount of Rs 75,50,353 ie Rs 12,28,937 (for 50 sqm of land allotted on a permanent basis) and Rs. 63,21,416 (for 1286 sqm of land allotted on temporary basis for four years).
The DMRC will use the piece of land for the purpose for which it has been handed over and not for other purposes.
The Rithala-Kundli Metro Corridor (Phase IV) offers major advantages by boosting the Delhi-Haryana connectivity, easing traffic/pollution in NW Delhi (Rohini, Bawana, Narela) via 21 elevated stations, supporting economic growth with better access to industrial/residential zones and integrating with the broader Red Line for seamless NCR travel.
It serves as a crucial link, extending the metro network into Haryana and improving public transport for lakhs of residents in previously underserved border areas.
The proposed stations on this corridor are Rithala, Rohini Sector 25, Rohini Sector 26, Rohini Sector 31, Rohini Sector 32, Rohini Sector 36, Barwala, Rohini Sector 35, Rohini Sector 34, Bawana Industrial Area – 1 Sector 3,4, Bawana Industrial Area – 1 Sector 1,2, Bawana JJ Colony, Sanoth, New Sanoth, Depot Station, Bhorgarh village, Anaj Mandi Narela, Narela DDA Sports Complex, Narela, Narela Sector 5, Kundli and Nathpur.
