The Uttar Pradesh government is investing over ₹6,000 crore into greenfield township projects throughout the state. Approximately 18 township initiatives are planned for Tier-II and III cities, including Agra, Aligarh, Ayodhya, Banda, Bulandshahr, Rampur, Meerut, Kanpur, Jhansi, Moradabad, Mathura, Firozabad, and Saharanpur.

A senior official mentioned, “These townships will be developed under the UP Township Policy 2023, aimed at providing affordable housing for residents in various districts.”

The policy is designed to encourage private investment in the creation of modern townships, ensuring they come with quality civic amenities.

The UP Township Policy 2023 ensures that 10% of housing in each township will be reserved for the economically weaker section and low-income groups. The state will contribute 50% of the funds required for land acquisition, aiming to make these projects financially viable for developers and accessible for citizens.

Some township projects are likely to commence next month, while others are expected to start in October around Diwali. The housing and urban planning department, led by Principal Secretary P. Guruprasad, has reviewed the progress and directed district development authorities to expedite land availability.

Strict provisions are in place to ensure the timely completion of these townships. Delays could lead to penalties and even confiscation of property. This approach is intended to maintain project quality and delivery schedules.

The state government plans to develop 100 new townships across Uttar Pradesh through public-private partnerships. These townships are expected to decongest major cities, create employment opportunities and integrate housing with economic activities. So far, the department has received about 450 proposals from private investors.
