The Income Tax department is reportedly conducting an investigation into property deals worth Rs 2 lakh crore registered at the Wazirabad tehsil in Gurgaon which handles registries and documentation related to some of India’s costliest properties including a Rs 100 crore Golf Course Road flat sold and registered at this office. The Income Tax department’s probe follows a survey and searches conducted by it on the suspicion that several high value transactions were not reported to the I-T department to evade taxes. Also, some people who bought expensive properties, allegedly paid minimal taxes.
The extent of high value registries handled by this tehsil in Gurgaon, can be judged from the fact that it earns an average yearly revenue of Rs 25K-30 K crore- the highest in India. The Income tax department is now seeking details of transactions for further scrutiny as property deals for six years are under the lens of the tax authorities.
